Lindiwe Booysen had no suspicion that there was anything wrong until Zanele’s birth on 12th October 2022 in Murraysburg some 540km from Cape Town. At birth, Mom noticed what appeared like growths little Zanele’s eyes and that she was breathing quite heavily. She was then sent to a hospital in Beaufort West and thereafter transferred to a hospital in George.
After quite a few trips to the hospital in George she was transferred to Red Cross Children’s Hospital on the 21st of July 2023. Lindiwe did not realize that her stay at Red Cross was going to turn into weeks.
She did not pack enough clothing for both her and her daughter and did not realize that the weather in Cape Town was extremely cold.
She received strict instructions from doctors to protect Zanele’s immune system, including keeping her warm especially in the freezing Cape Town winter temperatures we are currently experiencing.
She hardly had any warm clothes and looked at various options to acquire warm clothes for Zanele but as we are aware in the current economic conditions there are so many that are suffering financially, and it is extremely difficult to acquire the much-needed help. .
She plucked up the courage to contact Heart Kids SA for assistance. Heart Kids SA was able to put a smile on Mommy Lindiwe’s face and baby Zanele could be dressed warmly (pic attached).
We hope and pray that Zanele gets the much treatment needed.
