Partner Organisations: Hearts Unite the Globe

CHD Awareness month 2017, has proved to be an amazing month for Heart Kids South Africa. Among other developments, we have been able to start nurturing a relationship between Heart Kids South Africa and Hearts Unite the Globe.

Hearts Unite the Globe is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, based in the USA. There is an amazing synergy between the efforts of Ann and her team and the mission of Heart Kids South Africa. HUG’s mission is to empower, educate and enrich the lives of members of the congenital heart defects (CHD) community.  They strive to educate, inform and inspire through public outreach.

Heart Kids South Africa shares the passion for empowerment through education and resources. We look forward to making HUG’s existing resources available to South African families and we look forward to being able to make valuable contributions to the global CHD community through this partnership.

HUG has three core initiatives:

1) HUG supports a totally FREE weekly internet radio show, Heart to Heart with Anna, which features live interviews with health care professionals, parents and survivors on all topics concerning living with CHD.  You will be able to find all the latest shows right here on our website, and we will post links to older posts as well. Heart to Heart with Anna is also available on iTunes.  Another amazing website to look at is the HUG Podcast Network.

2) HUG donates books from Baby Hearts Press to hospitals and other institutions serving the CHD community.  Books like My Brother Needs an Operation, The Heart of a Mother, and The Heart of a Father share personal experiences with all members of the family and give comfort and hope.

3) HUG maintains the website Congenital Heart Defects.com with over 100 pages of information regarding the care of members of the CHD community.

It is a huge honor for Heart Kids South Africa to be associated with Hearts Unite the Globe. We are also looking forward to sharing CHD experiences from Africa with the world through the HUG platform. Should you want to share your experience with us, for this purpose, please email liza@heartkids.co.za.
